Description
This is the Sea King AEW.5, AEW means (Airborne Early Warning).
Unlike your regular Sea King HAS.5 this has been converted to the role of an AEW aircraft, so therefore is unarmed and carries a retractable Radar on the starboard side instead of a load of 4 torpedoes or depth charges.
The Aircraft is flown by a crew of 4 and powered by 2 Rolls-Royce Gnome H1400-2 turboshafts driving a 5 bladed main rotor and 6 bladed tail rotor.
In this picture we see the port side of the forward and some of the central fuselage with main landing gear housing and we can also see the cockpit and some vent covers over the engine intakes possibly to prevent dirt form being sucked in during flight.
I took this photo 25th July at the 2010 Farnborough Airshow.
